Cohort
Cohort is a group of students that meets usually fortnightly to present work, ask for help with work which is stuck or whatever else people wish to discuss. It has been going since 2003 and there is now a central group of mostly postgraduates, third years and honours students. A cross-section of undergraduates to advanced scholars has been found useful for all and Cohort especially wants to encourage younger undergraduates who may feel a bit shy of these groups; all comers are certainly welcome.
Chronological subjects covered vary from early medieval to the Restoration and can be at any stage and any scale of project, from a 2,500-word essay to a PhD chapter. The group usually meets in the Jessie Webb Library on the third floor of the John Medley East Tower every second Friday at 6:00 pm. There is always wine and food (a bottle opener will render any newcomer instant respect) and it is informal. There is a secure noticeboard (login required) at http://www.medieval-early-modern-history-cohort.invisionzone.com/; to register email Jenny Smith or Natasha Amendola or attend one of the meetings.
